The Ukrainian 422nd Unmanned Systems Regiment claimed to have destroyed a Russian Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system near Melitopol, in the south of the country.
The operation was recorded on video and released by the unit itself, showing the moment a drone identifies and strikes the target on a strategic highway in the region.
The footage indicates that the equipment was part of a protected convoy, composed of escort vehicles and trucks equipped with anti-aircraft weaponry. Even with this defense, the drone managed to approach the system and directly hit the launcher area, highlighting the growing effectiveness of unmanned vehicle operations on the battlefield.
The Tornado-S is considered an evolution of older Soviet systems, with the capability to fire satellite-guided rockets and strike targets at distances of up to 120 kilometers. In addition, the system features technology that allows the crew to operate and adjust fire without leaving the vehicle, increasing its speed and accuracy in combat.
The offensive is part of a series of recent actions by the same regiment, which in early April also targeted locomotives in the southern sector. On that occasion, FPV drones were used to attack moving targets, with support from reconnaissance aircraft for trajectory correction, reinforcing the central role of these technologies in modern conflicts.
